Dilation is a transformation where a shape is made larger or smaller without any change in its position or orientation. The pre-image and the image will be similar shapes. If the center of dilation is the origin then to find the coordinates of the dilation point students have to multiply the coordinate of the original point by the scale factor. For example, if a point (2,4) is dilated by scale factor 0.4 and the center of dilation is the origin then the coordinates of new points are (0.8,1.6).

About Worksheet

Grade 8
Transformations
8.G.A.3

In 8th Grade, students learn about types of transformations such as translation, rotation, reflection, and dilation. Teachers can provide “Dilate a point given coordinates worksheet” to their students to understand dilation and learn how to find the coordinate of the point after dilation. In this worksheet, each question has coordinates of a point and scale factor of dilation, and the students are asked to find the coordinates of the new point.
