In this lesson students will learn how to identify the direction and angle of a rotations. We’ll start by discussing what a rotation is and what the key aspects are. Then we’ll dive into a ByteLearn exploratory activity where students will learn by doing! You can expect this lesson to take one `45`-minute class period.

Students will be able to identify the direction and angle of a rotation.
Start students off with the ByteLearn exploratory activity. This assignment will help allow students to practice with rotating a figure about the origin and seeing where the rotated figure lands based on the direction and angle of rotation. It’s helpful to preface this assignment by telling students that they will explore how rotations about the origin work. But allowing students to learn by doing is the best part of learning about rotations! You can assign this as a “Live Session” for students to work on in class.

You can either give students the Rotations Notesheet while they work on the exploratory activity or after they’re finished. It’s up to you and how you best think your class works! You can also ask students what they prefer! If a student likes to complete one task before they finish the next, you can give them the notesheet to complete once they’re done with the exploratory activity. If another student likes to see all of what should be completed at once, they might choose to fill in parts of the notesheet as they work through the exploratory activity. You can also have students work with a partner.
Once students are finished with the Rotations Notesheet, go over the answers as a class. The answer key is provided in the document.
