Teaching Fraction Division Easily

  • While dividing fractions with another fraction, the first fraction is taken as dividend and the other fraction is taken as divisor.

  • Now, change the division sign into multiplication and then write down the reciprocal of the other fraction.

  • Finally, find the product by multiplying the numerator and denominator by themselves.

Here is an example to solve a question on dividing fraction with another fraction. Let’s look at the given example mentioned below to understand more about dividing fractions and fractions.

Q: Divide 12/8 by 2/4.

Step 1: Take the dividend as fraction and whole number as divisor.

So,

12/8 / 2/4.

Step 2: Secondly,  change the division sign into multiplication and then write down the reciprocal of the whole number.

12 / 8 * 2 / 4

Step 3: Multiply the denominator by denominator and numerator by numerator.

12 / 8 * 4 / 2 = 3 / 4.

Therefore, 12 / 8 / 2/4 = 3 / 4.
